Funny thing happened today, S came rushing home around 8.30pm and dragged me off to the vet. She was having an all girl dinner party when a call from Auntie A sent the group dispersing.
Auntie A asking S to bring me to the vet to test to see if my blood was compatible with another dog’s cos he was sick.
Given that it was Auntie A who requested, how could both of us say no? Hence, S immediately came home and brought me to the vet. However, what i didn’t know was that S actually bought tickets for a movie at 9.35pm. She figured that she could send me for testing.. and then while waiting for the lab test, she could either leave me with Aunty A at the hospital while she goes and watch her movie, or bring me home first and back after the movie if my blood is needed.
Needless to say, things don’t normally work out as planned. S decided to bring me home first, since the test will take 1/2 hr and often or not, the blood may not be compatible.
Right after S left her house for her movie, Aunty A called and told her that my blood is a match and is needed urgently. The hospital has been looking for a suitable donor for the whole day and i was the only one.
What can i do right? And S couldn’t bear not to help. So, she swung back, and took me to the vet, forgoing her movie.
It took 3 tries for the vet techs to draw 250ml of my blood successfully. They tried my neck first (i have a big missing patch of fur yet again!). However, cos i was too fidgety, only 3 persons holding me, that didn’t work out. Then they tried to draw from my right paw, with the help of 4 persons holding me, it didn’t work out. It was only when there was 6 people holding me, that the whole blood donation got under way! One to hold the blood pack, one to hold my paw with the needle in it, one to hold the other paw, 2 to hold my body down and S hold my head and talking to me and making sure that i was ok.
I was sure happy when they are all done…but wait!! They stuck another needle in me, claiming that it was good for me. I tot i was all done. Turn out that the vet tech decided to give me a iron supplement to boost my blood count quickly.

See my donation wounds? You can only see 3 bandages, but my neck has another one too.
You know something? I really figured out that i owe Aunty A this life of mine, for matching me and S, hence that’s why all these things fall into place so nicely.
I for one, believe in karma. Do you?
The sad thing is thati was supposed to go swimming on Sunday, however, i have been advice against exercising too much after my blood donation. So maybe it is out.
Do you know how sad that makes me?

THIS IS NOT HOW TO TREAT A LIFE SAVER!!!

when the call came, thou went to heed,
indeed what a brave Kingsley!
Looking from the point of view of a dog who received blood when Jeanie had her tick fever, she is really grateful (and so am I!) that the a dog with matching blood stepped forward (as did many many others, bless their hearts). *pat pat* Thank you for donating blood!
Thank you all for your kind words. Zeenie, that was a brilliant poem!!
